Misophonia:

What is Misophonia?

In short, Misophonia is when certain sounds such as a person fidgeting next to you, tapping a pencil on the desk, a repetitive noise that can make you feel anxious, angry and perhaps bring panic or emotional distress.

The result can be debilitating, finding it difficult to learn if in a classroom setting, avoiding social situations, and becoming increasingly anxious.

How can WhispEar Help?

WhispEar can be worn over the ear, amplifying the volume of the person they are wanting to listen to such as the teacher in a classroom or family member in a restaurant or supermarket. For many this is sufficient to help filter out unwanted noise, however there is also the option to wear the earpiece within noise reducing ear defenders. This helps further drastically reduce outside noise and distraction whilst amplifying and focusing upon what you want to hear.

Being Able To Focus

When wearing ear defenders to reduce environmental noise, the wearer can naturally feel disconnected from the teacher, friends, or family. By wearing ear defenders, it makes it more difficult to differentiate between sounds and separate conversations. For example, If sat in a restaurant, you may want to listen/focus on listening to the person on your table. The table next to you also has people talking. Ordinarily you can ‘filter’ out this unwanted conversation and focus on the person you want to hear, but, if wearing ear defenders or if suffering with reduced hearing such as having blocked ears this becomes very difficult to do.
